US-IALE MEETING THEME:
Linking
Landscapes and Seascapes: Conservation and Ecosystem Management at
the Land-Sea Interface - Solving
current and future environmental issues requires multidisciplinary
approaches that integrate the physical, ecological, and social sciences
in space
and time. The theme of this meeting was selected to highlight emerging
issues critical to San Diego and the Southern California region and
increasingly important worldwide. These include:
- integrating
landscape-based conservation planning and ecosystem management
across the land-sea interface because most people in the
world live in the coastal zone;
- the causes
and ecological consequences of the spatial composition and
configuration of landscape mosaics, in aquatic, marine and
terrestrial ecosystems;
- working
together across disciplinary boundaries to build theory and
develop an understanding of landscape pattern and process,
develop tools, and apply them to solve problems.
Keynote Speakers
The keynote speakers will be Professor Hugh
Possingham from the University of Queensland, and Dr. Exequiel Ezcurra
from the San Diego Natural History Museum.
