US-IALE 2009 Half-Day Field Trips

Date: Tuesday, 14 April
Time: 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Organizers: Local hosts

The Snowbird Resort

Tuesday afternoon has been designed to provide you with a variety of options. Included are a series of half-day workshops, tours of three of Utah’s premier micro-breweries (see below; must pre-register), or as much recreation as you desire. Included in your registration fee is a single, round-trip pass up the Snowbird Tram. The tram ride will take you to the top of Hidden Peak, 11,000 ft (3,300 m). From here, one can see into the Salt Lake Valley, and enjoy the spectacular vistas of the Wasatch Mountain Range.

Depending on personal tastes and weather conditions, you can snowshoe down (rental required), or simply take the tram ride back down. We have tentatively arranged for a local naturalist to accompany groups along on the tram ride to explain some of the local geology and natural history. More information on this will be forthcoming at the meeting. In addition, opportunities exist for all of Snowbird's winter activities. And, of course, there's half-day skiing if you desire.

Utah Micro-brewery Tours

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And likewise, and certainly contrary to the State’s well-deserved reputation for quirky liquor laws, the State of Utah has micro-brews. What may surprise you more is the number of awards Utah micro-brews have won over the years, including awards from the North American Brewer's Association (NABA), The Great American Beer Festival (GABF), and The World Beer Cup. Each has also garnered awards for specific and sometime very unique brews. As part of the Tuesday afternoon free time, we will be offering trips from Snowbird to downtown Salt Lake City to three of Utah's premier brew pubs, Uinta Brewing Company, Red Rock Brewery, and Squatters. Expect an afternoon of tours and taste-testing as a precursor to the Tuesday evening banquet!

We are limited to three groups of 12 persons each. Pre-registration required.

In the interest of public safety, all registered participants must ride in the shuttles we will provide.
